A Guide To Wooden Wine Racks

Ellen Pedersen

Although wine racks come in many shapes and styles, wooden wine racks remain the classiest choice. The pale earthy tones of the wood complement the soothing green and blue shades found on many wine bottles. Wine connoisseurs should not settle for trendy racks. They should enhance their wine collection by choosing traditional, timeless wooden wine racks.

Pine, oak, and maple are woods commonly used to build wood wine racks. Natural pine boards have a tendency to range in color from pale straw shades to dark honey. Pine is very inexpensive and relatively sturdy, so it is an extremely popular and affordable choice. Oak is more expensive because oak takes a long time to grow. Oak is extremely durable, long lasting and can range in color from a pale honey to a medium red. Maple is another sturdy hardwood. Maple can range in color, typically golden with darker red grain patterns. Maple falls in between oak and pine in cost. It is suggested that harder woods be used in wine cellars due to their strength and resistance to warping.

When purchasing wooden wine racks, it is essential to purchase a system that keeps the bottle level. If a cork is allowed to dry out, the wine spoils. Any wine enthusiast should ensure that the cork remains moist. To keep a bottle of wine in perfect condition, it should be stored in such a manner that the cork remains in contact with the wine. Wine is best stored in a cool, dark cellar. Median temperatures for proper wine storage range from 50?F to 59?F. Many basements are perfect for storing wine, as heat and light can spoil a wine in a very short time span.

Wood Modular Wine Racks

Wooden wine racks racks do not hold heat. As the wine bottles sit on the wood wine racks, no heat is transferred from the wood to the bottle. Metal racks can conduct heat. If wine is stored upstairs, heat from the sun can heat a metal wine rack and damage the contents of a bottle of wine that will not be opened for some time. Therefore, it is best to rely on wood wine racks when storing any bottle of wine.

Serious wine collectors should invest in wood modular wine racks. Modular racks are designed for floor to ceiling usage. Wood modular wine racks typically come in six sizes ranging from thirty-six bottle capacity to one hundred and twenty bottle capacity. Modular racks can be fitted side by side to fill an entire room. Lining basement walls with modular racks creates outstanding wine storage conditions.

With a wide array of wooden wine racks available, purchasing a storage system is simple. Prices range greatly, so there is certain to be a wooden wine rack that is affordable to the wine drinker in any home.
