California Hotels

A motel is a public lodging establishment for automobile travelers. Motels have traditionally differed from hotels in that the former have facilities for free parking on the premises, are seldom more than three stories high, and offer occupants direct access to rooms without having to pass through a lobby. Motels are also generally smaller and farther away from urban areas, and they offer fewer services than hotels.

The distinction between motels and hotels, however, is very difficult to make, especially in the case of the so-called motor hotels, which combine the characteristics of both types of establishment. In the 1980s and 90s, some midrange motels began to offer suite accommodations and other features once found only in hotels. Motels can be seen as logical heirs to the earlier American public houses. Just as the inn was suited to 18th-century horse travel, and the hotel was suited to 19th-century railroad travel, the modern motel is suited to mass automobile travel on 21st-century expressways.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) classifies motels as a limited service lodging type with the following definition: "A low-rise or multistory establishment offering limited public and recreational facilities." Motels or Motor Lodges offer accommodations in low-rise structures with rooms easily accessible to parking (which is usually free). Properties have outdoor entry and small, functional lobbies. Service is often limited, and dining may not be offered in lower-rated motels and lodges. Shops and businesses are found only in higher-rated properties, as are bellhops, room service, and restaurants serving three meals daily.

A limited-service motel is traditionally a One-Star or Two-Star lodging. At a One-Star motel, guests can expect to find a clean, comfortable lodging that commonly serves a complimentary continental breakfast. A Two-Star motel is also clean and comfortable but has expanded amenities, such as a full-service restaurant, business center, and fitness center. These services may have limited staffing and/or restricted hours of use.

San Pedro CA Bulletins

Cabernet Sauvignon United States California California Still Wine 750ml

Avalon Winery produces only Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from Californias finest appellations including Napa Valley and Sonoma County. A variety of vineyard sources and types of oak were used as a spice rack from which to create a richly flavored yet supple wine that will appeal to the Cabernet enthusiast as well as the Merlot drinker.. Only by using grapes from around the state can they deliver on that promise. Coastal vineyards impart the core of intense fruit flavors found in their wines year after year. The grapes were late bloom usually meaning a late crop. The harvest was an amazingly large harvest. The fat, juicy clusters weighed and produced more juice than anticipated and managed to fill every tank and barrel many winemakers had on hand. Rumor has it some winemakers simply had to stop harvest until they had enough room in their winery to receive more grapes. The stainless steel tanks were filled to capacity with grapes for fermentation. The grapes were then chilled and crushed for three days. This helped extract color and fruit flavors before it was inoculated with yeast. After 10-14 days of primary fermentation, the wine was dry and was pressed off for aging in oak barrels. Blending also provides the layers of flavors that sing more like a band than a solo act. The 2005 blend also includes Monterey Merlot for a juicy, rich fruit middle and a touch of Syrah with its luscious blueberry notes. Cabernet fruit provides plenty of plum, cherry, and boysenberry aromas. French oak adds a touch of caramel and cedar. The wine drinks deep in rich berry fruit flavors, with just enough oak to make it interesting and a great lingering finish. The composition is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, 4% Merlot.. This California Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits rich, slightly smoky aromas of cherries, boysenberries and chocolate. A minimum of eight months aging in French and American oak barrels softened the wine and imparted subtle notes of vanilla and spice.
